Some History about The Pick N Shovel
Nested at the base of the majestic 14,410 foot Mt.Rainier, the Pick N Shovel has been a place for people to gather, eat, drink, and be merry for almost 90 years. Little did Jasper Jurisich (founder of this establishment) know that his humble hangout for the hardworking would still be quenching the thirst, feeding the hungry and giving rest to the weary almost a century later.
Now in February 2005 we have the New Owners of the Pick N Shovel
Richard and Tami Macias and their kids Natalie and Nic! they are Residents of Sumner, WA. This dynamic "on the go" family is very excited to begin their new adventure in the little town of Wilkeson, WA
Richard is a retired Real Estate Appraiser (17 years) Richard Macias was looking for just the right place to invest his time, money and energy. Richard has been in and out of the food industry for most of his life. He had always had a dream of one day creating a cozy little restaurant that would cater to the local folks for breakfast, lunch, and diner, serving All-American cuisine.
He, Heard through a friend that the old Pick & Shovel was for sale. He then came out and was immediately impressed with the location, charm and the good feelings he felt from the community. His vision was to update the restaurant, making it more family-oriented. The bar side he planned to renovate and refinish. Both sides would also reflect the local history.
Now it is July 2005 The dust is gone and the paint is new, Richards dream is now ready to serve the people of the Wilkeson area and It's tourist year round.
Richard would like to give a special thanks to Ron Collins for restoring the bar to emulate it's original grandeur.
